Nakamoto Activation: Successful Activation on Nakamoto Testnet
Hey Stackers, this week’s planned Nakamoto Testnet hard fork was successful. You can see fast blocks in the explorer and not only enjoy today’s speed, but also get excited that continued optimizations will make them even faster.
Recap: Nakamoto Testnet Upgrade
During the testnet upgrade Core Developers discovered some bugs related to how nodes communicate with each other regarding tenure extensions. While the testnet operates mostly normally, you may see missed sortitions on it as a result. As the Core Developers work to eliminate these last few issues, testnet may be reset over the weekend. The related open issues can be found in Github so you can track their progress.
What it means for the hard fork
Before the mainnet hard fork, these bugs will need to be addressed and then tested with a new version on the Nakamoto Testnet and then the Primary testnet. The goal is to be ready to upgrade the Primary Testnet next week and then observe it running the latest code stably for at least one week before the mainnet hardfork.
Looking at the current timeline for the Primary Testnet hard fork, Core Developers are expecting a slight adjustment to the mainnet hard fork block in order to have sufficient time for these steps. Of course, the same caveats regarding any new issues apply; a safe, secure launch will remain the priority. In the meantime, all the Core Developers are heads down over the weekend working and they plan to release an update on the hard fork details by Friday, October 4th. We’re close!
The Activation timeline graphic will be updated when definitive information come available next week
Thank you to the Core Devs!
This is a huge milestone they’ve been working hard at for nearly a year, congratulate them when you see them. Stay tuned for further updates and keep that Naka•mojo!
Make sure you’re prepared for the hard fork
- Signers: Make sure you’re running the latest Signer binary and have upgraded any nodes you are running. Ideally you will have stacked for cycle #94 already, but you have until the end of cycle #93 to participate in the next cycle. Reach out to your ecosystem point of contact if you need any support.
- Miners: Upgrade to the latest release following your normal procedure.
- Exchanges: Upgrade following your normal procedure - this upgrade does not require a sync from genesis.
- Developers (App Builders): Make sure your app is ready to work with fast blocks and many blocks between Bitcoin blocks!
- Stackers: No action required. If you are Stacking, your funds will remain Stacking, no-Restacking required.
- Users/Holders: No action required, your funds will remain safe in your wallet, no token transfers or redemptions are necessary.
- Everyone: Buckle your seatbelts for fast blocks.
