Yield Guild Games: Community Update — Q3 2024
In Q3 2024, Yield Guild Games (YGG) built on its mission of empowering the global web3 community to uncover new opportunities for skills development, economic growth, and meaningful play. YGG published its Concept Paper to further explain its transition to a Guild Protocol, which will give guilds across the web3 ecosystem tighter integration with onchain services. The Guild Advancement Program (GAP) also saw a host of upgrades to provide questers a more rewarding experience, with Premium Quests introduced in Season 6 and the Rewards Center in Season 7.
Read on below for a recap of YGG’s activities and accomplishments in Q3.
Keeping Up with the Community
Q3 saw YGG set up shop at two of the year’s biggest international web3 events: Korea Blockchain Week in Seoul and TOKEN2049 in Singapore.
At Korea Blockchain Week, YGG collaborated with its South Korean regional guild partner SKYGG and gaming platform Iskra to organize two side events — Ready Player Seoul and Games: Portal to Web3. YGG Esports was highly active at both functions, where the team had a chance to network with notable attendees like the web2 esports organization Team Liquid and Fatal1ty, the world’s first esports superstar.
YGG enjoyed a similarly fruitful week at TOKEN2049. Co-founder Gabby Dizon spoke at the Web3 Transitions Summit co-hosted by LongHash Ventures and YGG, as part of a stellar speaker lineup that included web3 visionaries such as Axie Infinity co-founder Jihoz, Parallel co-founders Kalos and Kohji Nagata, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, and many more. Gabby also spoke at the Double XP Gaming Night co-hosted by the Blockchain Game Alliance (BGA) and PlaytoEarn.com, alongside BGA President and The Sandbox co-founder, Sebastien Borget, and other esteemed speakers in blockchain gaming.
Shaping a New Era for Guilds
YGG unveiled its Concept Paper in Q3, diving deep into its vision for how guilds in web3 will be organizing and operating onchain in the very near future. In particular, the launch of Onchain Guilds will enable groups of all types and sizes to coordinate, self-govern, and scale, while being able to uncover and connect with opportunities across the web3 ecosystem based on their demonstrable skills and verifiable reputation. By forming an Onchain Guild, community members can access opportunities that align with their specializations through YGG’s over 100 partners in gaming and beyond.
YGG’s library of applications and value-added services will also give Onchain Guilds the tools to help them manage their ranks and tailor their offerings to meet their community’s specific needs. This includes a verified member list, a multi-sig treasury wallet, and the ability to issue soulbound tokens and run quests.
Premium Quests and Daily Rewards
Q3 saw YGG wrap up yet another successful Guild Advancement Program (GAP) campaign in Season 6, which saw a 28% increase in participants and a 121% uplift in quest enrollments over the previous season. Super Champs: Bullet League led the way in quest enrollments with 13,581, with Nine Chronicles and Guild of Guardians closely following at 11,723 and 10,546 enrollments, respectively.
Premium Quests served as the main draw of the season, enabling seasoned players to tackle more challenging quests and win exclusive prizes. Season 6 also saw the introduction of AI Bounties into the program, giving participants a preview of YGG’s newest vertical, Future of Work.
YGG followed up on its successful GAP Season with the launch of Season 7 at the end of Q3, which introduced the Rewards Center. This shifted GAP’s rewards claiming process into a daily format, incentivizing players to participate more actively in the program and earn more rewards.
To accompany this new daily rewards claiming process, YGG has rolled out its active staking platform, The Stake House. Depositing YGG tokens into The Stake House adds a multiplier to the YGG points a GAP quester earns over the season.
The Future of Work Begins
Also at the Web3 Transitions Summit during TOKEN2049 week, YGG officially launched Future of Work, its latest vertical, with Future of Work Head Trish Rosal and YGG co-founders Beryl Li and Gabby Dizon in attendance. Later that same week in Singapore, Beryl took the stage at the Milken Asia Summit to share more details about YGG’s Future of Work on a panel about the role AI plays in the video game industry.
During her panel at Milken, Beryl explained how the intersection between emerging technologies like AI, along with the rise of decentralized work platforms in web3 is transforming today’s job market. To take advantage of this shift, YGG is giving its community opportunities to learn new skills and earn alternative income through its partners including AI robotics company FrodoBots, decentralized AI platform Synesis One, AI data labeling service Sapien, and web3-native big data platform Navigate.
The launch of Future of Work builds on the momentum of GAP’s AI bounties, creating unique, gamified opportunities for community members to contribute to the advancement of other emerging technologies.
Expanding the YGG Ecosystem
In Q3, YGG brought even more partners on board into GAP. Parallel and Nifty Island made their GAP debuts in Season 6, along with Arena of Faith, Blade of God X, and Sipher Odyssey in Season 7.
YGG also expanded its roster of web3 gaming partners in Q3 with Off The Grid, a cyberpunk battle royale, and the Keystone Foundation, a social protocol built by the founders of MySpace and Jam City.
The YGG network continued to grow as well, seeing a 50% increase in OLA GG’s registered users, KGeN’s steady hold on the #1 spot among gaming platforms on DappRadar, the listing of W3GG’s token on MEXC, Gate.io and Uniswap, and YGG Japan’s continued collaboration with Sony’s blockchain initiatives.
